Collaborative learning—a winning formula!

December 3 was perfect timing for the web conference on collaborative learning. It took place just after the Brandon Hall Excellence Awards (the most prestigious awards program in the training industry), during which e-doceo won “Best Advance in Mobile Learning Technology” for one of the new tools presented during the conference by the company’s general director, Jérôme Bruet.

Collaborative learning is more than a simple trend; it’s everywhere! Just like the social networks that have become an integral part of our daily lives, its main objective is to share content. However, people who take part in collaborative learning do so to develop skills and knowledge by connecting with others.

During the web conference, participants dove headfirst into the world of social learning by discovering e-doceo’s virtual class, particularly the new version of its SkillCatch mobile application (the app that won the award mentioned above).

SkillCatch is the first application that allows users to create training content in a matter of minutes. The application, which works on mobile devices, allows you to capture talent and share it with whomever you like. In other words, with SkillCatch you can create short training segments and effectively share your expertise with anyone, at any time, through a sequence of instructional videos. This means sharing your expertise is as simple as sending a text message.

The two solutions Jérôme Bruet presented during the web conference show us how we can vary the types of learning we use to get optimal results. However, it is also important to keep in mind the pitfalls to avoid in order to maximize the potential of these solutions and achieve our training objectives.

  • Relying solely on social learning
  • Creating a community without a community manager
  • Misaligning learners and learning culture
  • Neglecting to adapt to change

When used correctly, these tools help users enrich their knowledge by connecting with others virtually. Learners also often find incentive in sharing!
